ENGIE Ireland

ENGIE’s investment in Ireland’s renewable future

ENGIE is developing three new solar farms in Ireland, marking our first onshore renewable energy projects in the country. Located in Galway and Limerick counties, these solar farms will significantly contribute to Ireland’s clean energy transition.

The projects, situated in Ardnadoman, Dromsallagh, and Rooaun, will generate up to 12 megawatts per hour (MWh) of electricity. This is enough to power 4,100 homes each year with affordable, renewable energy. These solar farms were awarded through the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) 3 auction in 2023, an initiative that supports the development of large-scale renewable energy in Ireland.

Project details and timelines

Construction will begin in January 2025, with the solar farms expected to be operational by the second half of 2025. Once completed, the sites will have a total capacity of 18 MWph. ENGIE has partnered with Astatine and TLI Group to build the assets, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of the projects.

Supporting local communities

As part of our commitment to sustainability, ENGIE will establish a community benefit fund for each solar farm. This fund will contribute €2 per MWh of electricity generated, supporting local community initiatives and projects. A dedicated fund manager will oversee the distribution of these funds, ensuring they benefit the communities directly impacted by the developments.
