We are planning a new biomethane facility on an area of land east of the A162, west of the Sherburn-in-Elmet railway line, north of the South Milford railway line.
As well as specific site characteristics the location has been chosen for several reasons, including its proximity to the national gas grid network and the availability of local agricultural feedstock, coupled with a need for managing agricultural wastes that are currently spread to land. There is also enough land to allow for mitigation to ensure residents and other local receptors will not be detrimentally impacted and biodiversity net gain can be achieved.
Each one of our new developments should provide enough renewable gas to power approximately 5,200 homes locally.
Ensuring a sustainable and consistent income for local farmers.
Offering educational visits for local schools and community groups
Contributing to the circular economy, using feedstock from local farmers to power the community.
With four biomethane plants already operating safely and reliably across the South West, coupled with our vast experience and passion for renewable energy, we are proud to lead the UK’s energy transition. Our green gas powers tens of thousands of local homes, supports farmers and helps shape a cleaner future.
ENGIE is a leading energy transition utility dedicated to providing sustainable solutions that drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. With a strong focus on renewables, flexibility and clients, we are dedicated to creating a more sustainable future.

“Working with ENGIE UK has been a game-changer for us. Reliable income, great communication, and a true partnership!” – James and John Govier, Great Hele Barton Farm.
“It has given us a reliable income stream, a base margin in the farm – we know we can invest in the long term. We’ve noticed since using the digestate as a soil enhancer we have far better crops and we use it on our grassland too.” Troy Stuart
If you farm locally and are interested in becoming a feedstock provider, please contact the team on the above details. We are looking for crops and agricultural wastes such as FYM, slurry, chicken litter etc.
